Muuvit adventure in a nutshell

Last week class 4 finished the Muuvit project. As the aim we chose one of the European capital – Madrid. How did we work?  We accumulated points through daily physical activity – in class, during the breaks and in our free time. The points advanced our class in the online adventure. The more we moved, the further we travelled. We collected 6586 activity points (where 1 point is for 10 minutes activity)!

With Muuvit Adventure we visited many cities in Europe (we started with Krakow, to Budapest, Kiev, Chisinau, Bucharest, Sofia, Skopje, Tirana, Athens, Rome, Sassari, Palma, Barcelona, Bordeaux and finally – Madrid) and on the occasion we did tasks such as puzzles and games. We sent also some interesting postcards to other classes participating in the Muuvit Adventure and to our school e-mail address.

Thanks to Muuvit we got to know many interesting facts about Spain and Madrid. Here they are:

Madrid is the capital of Spain and lies in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula on a plateau.

The rise of the city began in 1561 when King Philip II from the House of Habsburg moved Spain’s parliament and the residence of the court to Madrid. Before that, the Moors had ruled the Iberian Peninsula. You can still see traces of Arab rule on old buildings in Madrid.

Madrid is one of Spain’s most important industrial cities. Around 6.3 million people live in the Madrid region. Many people from other areas in Spain move to Madrid – to study or to find work for instance.

The Plaza Mayor remains the liveliest square in town and one of the most beautiful market places in the world to this day. Under Habsburg rule, the square was used for bull fights and other events. Today, bull fights are held in bullrings.

Most Spanish people are real night owls – not least because in Spain in the summer it can stay very hot until the sun goes down. So hardly anyone eats their evening meal here before 9 pm and they take a siesta at midday: This is when many of the shops close for a few hours and people take a nap if they can.

If you are interested in plants, don’t miss the Faunia Nature Park, a biodiversity theme park with exotic animals and plants. The dolphin lovers among you will really enjoy the Zoo Aquarium and there is also the Planetarium for all the astronomers.

El Retiro is a big park in the heart of Madrid. It was originally designed as a recreation area for kings, but today it is open to the public. There used to be a „House of Cows” where commoners and kings alike could come and drink a glass of milk that had just been milked from a cow. Unfortunately, that has been demolished in the meantime but you certainly won’t find it boring here. There are lots of things to do, such as a few rounds in a rowing boat on a little lake in the middle of the park to name but one example.

A typical Spanish dish is paella, which is made of yellow rice, seafood, chicken and colourful vegetables.

Muuvit Adventure was an interesting experience for us and maybe we will move and travel with it again.
